What To Expect from Therapy

CBT is an evidence based therapy recommended for the treatment of anxiety and depression by NICE.  It is a talking therapy which focuses on building your understanding of how your thought processes and behaviours can impact the way you feel and function in day to day life.  Sometimes we just end up doing what we need to do to get through the next hour or day but can end up feeling trapped in a vicious cycle and struggling to move forward.  We will work together to understand why a problem has developed and what is preventing you from feeling better. Therapy is practical and focuses on using this understanding to help you develop strategies to process your thoughts in a helpful way and build behaviours which will help you to improve your wellbeing. 
Therapy can be challenging because it often means stepping outside your comfort zone to some degree.  Therefore I always endeavour to make it a supportive and none judgemental space where we will work towards the goals that are important to you, at your own pace, in order to help you start living a more fulfilling life.
